SENIOR DESIGNER

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking candidates for the position of Senior Designer to join our northern California office in beautiful Napa. We are looking for designers who are driven, passionate about their work, deadline oriented, articulate, and responsive to a collaborative design environment. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. We offer a comprehensive benefit package including paid vacation, insurance; medical, dental, vision, and term life, plus participation in a retirement (401k) plan and bonus program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Senior Designers guide project design through oversight and direction of Project Managers (see Project Manager description below) in the typical studio process. The focus of this role is to provide inspiration, guidance, and oversight for project design and process for Project Managers.

  • Exemplify Ground Studio philosophy and core values to project teams, both internal and external.
  • Be a support for Partners by attending early design / site meetings and capturing big picture ideas to inform the project story. 
  • Develop a project story document and communicate the vision to Project Manager and Design Staff for the project.
  • Provide regular updates to Partners regarding project status and needs.
  • Coordinate with all Project Managers on project budgets and report to Partners on progress and updates regularly.
  • Present to project teams when needed in collaboration with or on behalf of Partners
  • Be thoroughly versed in Project Workflow and Project Manager job description and be able to guide Project Managers in Ground Studio standards.
  • Engage Project Managers and all Design staff in such a way that encourages responsibility and ownership of work, empowering them to make decisions that reflect Ground Studio values.
  • Support for Project Managers, including:
    • Design direction
    • Priority setting help
    • Encouraging responsiveness to entire project team
    • Setting expectations for professional conduct
    • Seeking closure and completeness, with daily efficiency
    • Communicating clear expectation of all deliverables

SKILLS REQUIRED IN THE FOLLOWING:

  • MAC OSX – we are a MAC based office
  • Vectorworks Landmark 2020 experience or an ability to learn this program quickly
  • SketchUp
  • MS Office Suite
  • Adobe Design Suite
  • Hand sketching and lettering

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or Architecture
  • We prefer a Licensed Landscape Architect (California license preferred, but not required)
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate related professional experience, including project management, design and detailing experience with an accomplished firm.

PROJECT MANAGER / LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking candidates for the position of Project Manager / Landscape Architect to join our offices in beautiful Monterey, Napa and Santa Barbara.  We are looking for designers who are driven, passionate about their work, deadline oriented, articulate, and responsive to a collaborative design environment. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. We offer a comprehensive benefit package including paid vacation, insurance; medical, dental, vision, and term life, plus participation in a retirement (401k) plan and bonus program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead landscape architecture projects from conceptual design through construction administration, including management of sub-consultants and production staff.
  • Assume responsibility (with support) for the production, organization, coordination, and accuracy of all documents and presentation documents.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement in the performance of duties.
  • Lead multiple projects in various stages of development simultaneously and work cooperatively with the principal team to ensure design integrity and graphic consistency.
  • Communicate with and coordinate the efforts of project team members, clients, consultants, contractors and agency officials.
  • Manage project schedule, workflow, and anticipate required staff resources and delegate accordingly.
  • Work with the project team to produce presentation materials for client and agency presentations.
  • Research and specify materials, products and systems.
  • Attend job-site meetings, issue supplemental instructions, review submittals and shop drawings during the Construction Administration phase.
  • Coach and mentor Design Staff, share experiences and lessons learned to increase the firm’s common knowledge.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills are essential to success in this position.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking candidates for the position of Design Staff to join our offices in beautiful Monterey, Napa and Santa Barbara.  We are looking for designers who are driven, passionate about their work, deadline oriented, articulate, and responsive to a collaborative design environment. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work directly under the Project Managers in a supportive role producing:
    • site analysis drawings
    • conducting project research
    • creating schematic design presentations
    • 2D graphics
    • 3D digital models
    • construction documents
    • and presentation materials.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement in the performance of duties.
  • Assist with client meetings and site reconnaissance.
  • A general understanding of the basic principles of landscape architecture is required, including:
    • site design
    • grading and drainage
    • plant material
    • working drawings
    • construction materials
    • and construction details.
  • Progressive graphic skills and an aptitude for digital media and software:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or Architecture. This is an entry-level to three years of experience position, with opportunity for professional growth.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT / LEAD PLANTING DESIGNER

We are seeking candidates for the position of Landscape Architect / Lead Planting Designer to join our northern California office in beautiful Monterey.  We are looking for designers who are driven, passionate about their work, deadline oriented, articulate, and responsive to a collaborative design environment. This is a full-time position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Lead Planting Designer for Ground Studio is responsible for the seamless integration of the planting design with the overall vision for every project.  The Lead Planting Designer makes decisions based on regional context that reflect the overall design intent of the project, and is responsible for assisting Project Managers and Design Staff in the development of planting designs on all projects.  They will consistently exhibit the following characteristics:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take the lead on planting designs on a wide range of projects from conceptual design through construction administration, including the production and presentation of planting plans. 
  • Assume responsibility (with support) for the production, organization, coordination, and accuracy of planting presentations with sketches, flavor images and all presentation materials aligned with Ground Studio graphic standards.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgement in the performance of duties.
  • Communicate with and coordinate the efforts of landscape contractors and agency officials.
  • Work with the project team to produce presentation materials for client and agency presentations.
  • Research and specify plant and tree materials, products and systems.
  • Attend job-site meetings, review plant layouts, issue supplemental instructions, review submittals and shop drawings during the Construction Administration phase.
  • Eventually coach and mentor Design Staff, share experiences and lessons learned to increase the firm’s common knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture
  • We prefer a Licensed Landscape Architect (California license preferred, but not required)
  • Horticultural expertise with identifying, specifying and growing California Native and Mediterranean Native plant communities is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate related professional experience, including project management, design and detailing experience with an accomplished firm.

IT SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking candidates for the position of IT Systems Administrator to join our Central Coast office in beautiful Monterey. We are looking for an ambitious, hard worker who can multi-task and be detail-oriented while maintaining a high level of efficiency and professionalism. This is a full-time position with compensation commensurate with experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, insurance; medical, dental, vision, and term life, plus participation in a retirement (401k) plan and bonus program. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with department needs for the Administrative & Executive teams.
  • Studio Administration – filing, copying, ordering office supplies, e-mailing, keeping the company calendar, shipping & receiving, creating and or modifying documents in Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe, Google Docs, etc.
  • IT Coordination – assisting with deploying and maintaining working condition of all office computer & networking equipment, printers and mobile devices, provide 1:1 troubleshooting with staff on any tech + networking related issues, accountable for software license and computer purchasing/leasing administration and recordkeeping therefor, coordinating new and separated employee software installation and configuration + account creation/termination (Adobe, SketchUp, Vectorworks, Microsoft, iOS, G-Suite email + calendar sharing, Asana, RingCentral, Get My Time, Egnyte, Dropbox, iCloud Contacts, etc.), track and maintain equipment inventory, assist with the administration of company website and marketing materials as needed, collaborate with Admin Team and staff to implement standards, policies and best practices, all with the guidance of the Administration Team.
  • Management Team Administrative Support – tending to tech support requests, purchasing needs, device set-up and deployment, software installation, scheduled upgrades and any migrations necessary in a timely fashion. Assist as needed with updating calendars, scheduling autoresponders, and connectivity issues, provide administrative support, creating and updating internal forms as needed.
  • Maintaining Studio Equipment – assisting with organizing and monitoring the general maintenance and security of the office equipment, coordinating repairs, cleaning, preventative maintenance, lease renewals, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate related professional experience, including IT, networking, administration, and customer service. 

SKILLS REQUIRED IN THE FOLLOWING:

  • Above average skills in communications, attitude, professionalism, work ethic and strong customer service orientation with a winning mentality.
  • Bookkeeping experience preferred but not required.
  • Working knowledge of Google Docs and Forms.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Networking, Mac OS platform and Apple Support – an understanding of setting up computers & servers for both in-person and remote workers and troubleshooting problems as they arise.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft & Adobe Suites – programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Fresco, Sketch and more.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or willingness to learn SketchUp and Vectorworks CAD software platforms, used on a daily basis by Design team.
  • Highly detail oriented, able to work diligently and independently.
  • Professional and friendly demeanor when handling sensitive business calls.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer care, externally and internally, in a professional manner.
  • Effective team player that completes individual tasks on time, closes communication loops and asks clarifying questions to assure mutual understanding.
  • Excellent in-person, phone, email and written communication skills for team members and clients.
